Hoi An in Pictures: Vietnam’s Cutest Town

If you asked me what my favourite place in Vietnam was, I couldn’t tell you. I have so many! If, however, you ask about my favourite town, it can only be Hoi An! Its historical buildings, colourful lanterns it is so notoriously known for, its people, the food… Actually, have a look yourself: the pictures will tell it better. Here are my best photos of Hoi An.

Can you guess my favourite colour? Yes, it is indeed yellow. You can find many yellow houses in the old town of Hoi An – I mean, how can you NOT fall in love instantly?!

I can only recommend wandering the streets of Hoi An early in the morning. The beauty of this place is even more obvious when there are barely any tourists around.

You can observe the daily life of locals early in the morning.

Street food is how Vietnam does it! In fact, Vietnamese rarely ever have breakfast at home, everyone eats on the street.

Of course it’s a great place to get some Instagram-worthy shots… 😀

Hoi An is a very popular tourist destination so if you would like to enjoy (almost) empty streets, early alarm it is for you! Temperatures are also a lot more pleasant in the morning – don’t forget Vietnam is a tropical country and the town gets really hot during the day.

If you are looking for a unique experience, find the Reaching Out teahouse where you are served by speech and hearing impaired staff. The silence of this place is very calming, the staff are lovely and they serve possibly the best organic green tea I have ever had.

Before sunset is when the old town starts getting the busiest! Many tourists like to get on the romantic boats with lit up lanterns and slowly going down the river. However, there was nothing romantic about seeing so many paper lanterns floating in the water later on and in the morning… 🙁

Don’t forget to try the street food in Hoi An! It was one of the best I had in all of Vietnam.

Hoi An Local People

Hoi An is known as “The City of Lanterns”. If you would like to know why, head to the old town at night! It is when the town really comes to life with masses of tourists eager to see the magical lights. Be prepared to pay for an entry to the old town after dark. (Or just come before dusk, you might get away with it depending on where you go.)
