Singapore in Pictures
Singapore. The super modern, super clean and super expensive city state of Asia. For many travellers also a quick layover while heading to another destination. Whether you only have a few hours or a few days, here are the main things you shouldn’t miss in Singapore. I spent four days in Singapore last year so I’m by no means an expert on the city but I hope you’ll find some inspiration for your Singapore visit here!

Like I’ve already said on my Instagram profile, I didn’t exactly LOVE Singapore. Maybe it just felt a bit too artificial and impersonal – and was missing some of the busting atmosphere I found in Hong Kong, for example. However, Singapore is definitely a very cool and unique place worth seeing. Who knows, I might give it another chance in the future. In the meantime, enjoy my photos of Singapore – needless to say, it’s a highly photogenic city! 😉
You can also watch my video from Singapore! Turn on English subtitles 😉
Marina Bay Sands
The iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel has quickly become a symbol of Singapore and you can see its gigantic structure from almost anywhere in the city. If you don’t mind spending a bit more money (a bit more than a bit more), you can stay at the hotel and enjoy its world famous rooftop infinity pool.
If you are a poor backpacker like me, don’t despair! You can still access the observation deck on the Marina Bay Sands rooftop and take in the views of Singapore. (The pool is only for the hotel guests though.)
Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is the huge green area right next to the Marina Bay Sands and definitely the highlight of Singapore. If you are deciding on what to see on your short Singapore layover, Gardens are the Bay are not to be missed! They consist of several gardens, conservatories and attractions so it’s easy to spend a whole day here. Admission to the outdoor gardens is free.
My favourite part was the OCBC Skyway! I can only recommend walking amongst the Singapore Supertrees 🙂
Helix Bridge
While you are in the Marina Bay area, don’t forget to cross the bridge that looks like a DNA structure!
Merlion
Merlion is a creature with a mermaid body and a lion’s head and also a symbol of Singapore. While there are several Merlion statues in Singapore, the most popular one is the one (actually two) in the Merlion Park.
Singapore Flyer
If you want to see Singapore from a different perspective, you can try the Singapore Flyer, which is an observation wheel. I didn’t personally go on it but if you like ferris wheels, you know where to find one 😉
Little India
Probably the most colourful part of Singapore – so, naturally, my favourite. Singapore is a very multicultural place with mainly Chinese, Malaysian and Indian population, which also reflects on the different neighbourhoods you can find in Singapore. Little India will not only greet you with picturesque houses and street art, but also with many saari shops, Indian music or the smell of Indian food.
I bet you’ve never seen this house on Instagram before…
Hawker centres are the best (and CHEAPEST) places to eat in Singapore. Guess where you’ll find the most delicious Indian food…
Chinatown
Over 70% of the Singapore population is Chinese so of course the city state has its own Chinatown. 😉
The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple…
Sentosa
Sentosa is a recreation island in Singapore offering beaches and pretty much any kind of entertainment you can think of. Madame Tussauds, Universal Studios, aquariums and waterparks, casinos or various adrenaline attractions can all be found here.
Sentosa is connected to the mainland by a bridge but you can travel to and around the island by cable car.
Sentosa also has its own Merlion. Of course.
And apparently it’s where you’ll find the southernmost point of continental Asia.
Singapore National Day
My time in Singapore accidentally collided with Singapore’s birthday, aka Singapore National Day (9 August). That meant fireworks, Singapore flags everywhere and the entire population of Singapore dressed in red and white on the day.
And finally, my favourite activity in any city is to simply walk around and see as much as I can… 😉
Accidentally came across the Parliament of Singapore which literally had no people around. It immediately made me think of the busy and popular parliament in London 😀 No selfie sticks to be found here…
I admit I had found this amazing rainbow building on Instagram. I mean, can I have a cool house like that one day? 😀 It’s an old police station by the way.
Did my photos inspire you to visit Singapore? I hope so! If you enjoy travel photo series like this, you might like my post from Hong Kong or Hoi An, Vietnam. 😉
